Objectives and functions of IIC

Objectives of Establishing Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) at SITM

  1. Promoting Innovation and Idea Generation: The primary goal is to systematically foster a culture of innovation among students and faculty members. This involves conducting regular workshops, hackathons, and idea competitions to identify and nurture raw talent. The SITM IIC acts as a focal point for translating innovative ideas into viable prototypes and business models, driving critical thinking and problem-solving skills across all disciplines. It links academic knowledge with practical application, thereby encouraging interdisciplinary work on real-world challenges.  This objective aims to create an environment where intellectual property (IP) creation is valued and supported.
  1. Building an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Skill Development: Another core objective is to create a robust pipeline for student and faculty startups and entrepreneurship development. The SITM IIC organizes boot camps, mentorship sessions, and investor pitch events, connecting aspiring entrepreneurs with industry experts. It specifically focuses on developing essential skills like market analysis, financial planning, and legal compliance required to launch and scale a business. By facilitating interactions with successful alumni and local incubation centers, the IIC ensures sustained support, making the college a hub for job creators rather than just job seekers.

Functions of Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) at SITM

  1. Cultivating an Innovation and Idea Generation Culture: The SITM IIC's fundamental function is to instill a pervasive culture of creative problem-solving and entrepreneurial thinking across the campus. This is achieved by organizing frequent, structured activities like design thinking workshops, pre-incubation orientation sessions, and institution-level idea competitions.
  2. Facilitating Prototype Development: A crucial practical function is to provide the tangible resources and expert mentorship required to transform abstract ideas into working prototypes.
  3. Establishing External Ecosystem Linkages and Commercialization Pathways: The SITM IIC serves as the official interface connecting student and faculty innovators with the regional and national startup ecosystem. This function involves building partnerships with external incubators, angel investor networks, industry associations, and government funding bodies.
